Rifampicin 150mg / 300mg

Pharmacological class:
Antibiotic – Rifamycin

Indications:
Treatment of Pulmonary TB in combination with either Isoniazid; Ethambutol or both.

Dosage & Administration:
TB: Adults: 600mg OD Children: 20 to 40mg/kg daily – not to exceed 600mg/ day
NB: To be taken either 1hr before or 2 hrs after food. Exercise caution in alcoholics / Hepatic Disease & Pregnancy

Side Effects:
Heartburn / anorexia / Epigastric Distress / Nausea & Vomiting / Jaundice / Flatulence / Cramps & Diarrhoea
Rarely liver Damage / Acute Renal Failure / thrombocytopenia / Visual & Menstrual Disturbances / Drowsiness / Fatigue / Headache / Fever /
Over – Dosage Treatment: Gastric
Lavage & then Activated Charcoal to absorb remaining traces.
