Salbutamol tabs 4mg / syrup 2mg/5ml
Pharmacological Class
Selective B – adrenergic agonist
Indications:
- Relief of bronchiospasms in asthma
- Chronic Bronchitis
- Emphysema
- Management of uncomplicated premature labour in 3rd trimester
Dosage & Administration:
- Adults: 4mg TDS – Maximum 8mg TDS
- Children: 2-5 yrs: 2.5 – 5ml TDS or QiD
- 6-12yrs: 5ml TDS or QiD
- >12yrs: 4mg TDS or QiD
- In elderly : Initiate treatment with 2mg BD or TDS
Contra-indications:
Hypersensitivity to salbutamol
Do not use for threatened abortion
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use in pregnancy if benefi t outweighs the risks to fetus
In lactation not recommended unless benefit outweighs the risks
Side Effects:
- Tremor of skeletal muscle / tension / peripheral Vasodilation
- Small increase in heart rate especially in elderly
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Rarely muscle cramps
- Hypokalaemia
- Hyperactivity in children
- Cardiac arrythmias in susceptible patients
- Over – Dosage treatment
- Use a cardio – selective beta blocking agent
