About Us
Universal Corporation Ltd (UCL), founded in 1996, is a WHO prequalified pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Kenya, serving more than 23 countries across Africa and beyond. With a state-of-the-art facility in Kikuyu, UCL is among the few Sub-Saharan manufacturers recognized for meeting global quality and regulatory standards.
Driven by a single purpose, transforming health on a global scale, UCL develops, manufactures, and supplies a wide range of essential medicines, including treatments for HIV and AIDS, malaria, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and dermatological conditions. Our commitment goes beyond production; we work closely with global health organizations such as UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund), USAID (United States Agency for International Development), and the Global Fund to make life saving therapies affordable and accessible to millions.

UCL is headquartered in Kikuyu, Kenya, about 20 km from Nairobi, with operations across numerous African countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Congo, Zambia, and Malawi. Globally, it reaches markets such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Denmark, Haiti, and Yemen. UCL engages with over 4,100 doctors in Africa, including 2,750 in Kenya and 1,300 in export markets, and serves more than 5,500 pharmacies in Africa, 4,200 in Kenya, and 1,300 in export regions .Distribution is supported by key partners like UNICEF, Global Fund, USAID, and Iplus.

At Universal Corporation Limited, quality is a core commitment backed by a state-of-the-art Quality Control Laboratory. Equipped with advanced instruments like HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), UHPLC (Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), GC (Gas Chromatography), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), and Raman Spectrometers, the lab ensures every product meets stringent national and international standards. UCL follows a multi-tiered quality assurance process—from raw material sampling to final product testing—supported by robust IT systems for data integrity and traceability. A team of trained professionals continuously improves practices through regular training and inter-lab comparisons, ensuring reliable, reproducible, and accurate results at every stage.
