Doxycycline 100mg

Pharmacological Class
Tetracycline Antibiotic.

Indications

• UTIs esp. non specifi c urethritis
• Acne Vulgaris & Acne Rosacea
• Chloroquine resistant p. falciparum malaria

Dosage & Administration.

• Adults: 100mg BD
• Children above 8 yrs weighing > 50kg: 2 –
• 4 mg / kg body weight in 2 divided doses
• Acne Vulgaris: 50 – 100mg daily for upto 12 weeks
• Uncomplicated non – gonococcal infections
• ( Anorectal infections in men) 100mg BD * 7/7 or 300mg stat followed by 300mg stat after after 1 hr.
• NB: administer with food as required.
• Uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infections by chlamydia – 100mg BD * 7/7
• Acute epididymo-orchitis caused by c.trachomatis or N. gonorrheae 100mg BD * 10/7
• Ureaplasma urealyticum infections associated with unexplained infertility: treat both partners 100mg BD * 4/52
• Non gonococcal urethritis caused by ureaplasma urealyticum: 100mg BD * 7/7
• Primary & Secondary Syphyllis: 100mg TDS * 10/7

Contraindications:

• Pregnancy, Hypersensitivity to any tetracycline
• Infancy & childhood < 12yrs .

Side Effects
Nausea / vomiting / Diarrhoea / anorexia /super infections with candida, pseudomonas or proteus
